Here is the new submission site:
The Learning and Teaching in Higher Education: Gulf Perspectives Journal is now published by Emerald Publishing and it can be accessed directly from here []
Currently, all the previously published volumes of the LTHE are still available through this platform, while any future volumes will be published on the Emerald site.

LTHE publishes three types of contribution: research articles, reflections and reviews of books/ other resources.  A research article presents original research which contributes to knowledge about learning or teaching in the Gulf context; a reflection describes an experience (e.g. teaching a particular course or using a particular method) and analyzes critically what students and/or teacher learnt from this experience.  A reflection should include some reference to other sources to justify what was done, but not necessarily a 'literature review' as in a research paper; it should also present a variety of evidence to support the points made (e.g. students’ feedback, observation, assessment results).

Bear in mind that LTHE's readership includes people working in a range of disciplines, with a shared interest in understanding and promoting student learning in their subject.  Papers should be clearly comprehensible and relevant to a reader who is familiar with higher education settings but not with the author's subject area.  The readership of the journal also extends outside the Gulf Region: try to make local references as clear as possible to such readers.

When citing sources, please use APA format.  Examples may be found at

Please use the LTHE template (click HERE) and insert your own content for submission: you can change the suggested headings and write your own content, or paste it in. Whenever possible do not use formatting such as Bold/Italic (these may be removed in the editing process), but rather Word's Styles feature, to keep the format of headings and other items consistent.

Before submitting your paper you must remove all personal information from it.  This includes removing your name and associated details from anywhere in the document (see Ensuring a blind review).  For instructions on how to remove hidden personal information from a document in Word 2010, click HERE.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission is my original work and I understand that all submissions will be screened with plagiarism detecting software. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The paper (without appendices) is no longer than 8,000 words.
  3. The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
  4. All formatting used in the manuscript (including tables, style, citations and references) adheres to the American Psychological Association (APA) style 6th edition. Examples may be found at
  5. The text is double-spaced; uses 1 inch margins; shows page numbers; uses Word Styles (e.g. Normal, Heading, Quotation, Emphatic) rather than italics/bold/underlining; all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  6. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  7. I have read and followed the instructions in Ensuring a blind review and have properly blinded my manuscript. This means the following items do not appear in the manuscript (on the title page, in the body or in the document properties): author names, author affiliations, correspondence information, etc.

(NB: see instructions for anonymizing your document in Word 2010 here and for Word 2007 here.

  8. I confirm that I have completed all submission requirements and followed all submission guidelines, especially all of the checklist items. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in my submission being returned to me for correction.
